Kitty Cannon

After I Reviewed Yeti Sports 4 – Albatros Overload the other day, I began to think about these ‘beat your distance,’ type flash games. I mean they are almost in a genre of their own. They are not quite strategy, fighting, racing, sports, puzzle or anything I can think of. They do require a bit of skill, mostly having to do with when to press your mouse button to launch whatever it is you are launching. However most of the time the end result depends in nothing but luck!

Kitty Cannon is the all-time greatest of these games and the perfect example to illustrate my point. Basically the whole point of the game it use a cannon to launch your Kitty as far as you can! The only part that requires the user’s interaction is the aiming of the cannon and the actual launching time and power of the kitty. While one might interpret this as the skilled portion of the game, the real outcome is almost entirely dependant on the placement of the obstacles that are scattered ahead that can either help propel the poor defenseless kitty, or stop her in her tracks!

So, while some swear that aiming the cannon at a 45 degree angle and using 100 percent power when launching is the best approach, others argue that 65 degrees and 90 percent is the way to go. I take a different approach. I just launch as quickly as I can to get as many launches in as I can. The reason I take this approach is because a ‘helper’ object could be directly in front of the kitty, thus sending her on a chain of subsequent other helper objects, propelling her further and further. Or a ‘stopper’ object can instantly stop the kitty in her tacks not matter how fast or far she’s been!

So there you have it. If you’ve played it, you know the game well and are probably smiling now. Perhaps you’ve even paused for a quick replay of the game! If you have not, go a head and give it a ‘shot!’ See how far you can get and come back here and leave your score in our comments.

Some of the ‘helper’ objects will propel the kitty higher into the air. And if you get the angle just right, the kitty will soar faster horizontally too!

Trampoline – Bounces the kitty higher into the air.

TNT – Actually explodes the kitty higher into the air!

Floating Misses – Does the same as the TNT, but since it is already in the air, the kitty will get more hang time!

Some of the ‘stopper’ objects that will stop the kitty in her tracks!

A Fly Trap – Yes, a fly trap! IF the kitty gets anywhere close, it will gobble her up!

Spikes – If the kitty lands on these, then game over!

Yeti Sports 4 – Albatros Overload

If you play games online, you’ve probable heard of some of the Yeti Sports games right? If not, then you are in for a surprise.

There are like ten different games, and they are all pretty cool and equally addictive, but instead of reviewing them all now, I’m just going to review a few hear and there and then maybe do a mega-review later on. Maybe I’ll even list the ones I like best from #1 to #10, who knows.

Anyhoo, here we have Yeti Sports 4 – Albatros Overload. It follows the same premise as all the Yeti games: you play the Yeti and sometimes some of his friends and you get to use and abuse the penguins for your own amusement!

First you play the Yeti. Start off by pressing the mouse button to launch a penguin in the air toward a seagull. Once the seagull has the penguin in his claws (or is it talons?), you control the seagull. Now press the mouse button to flap, but pay close attention to the power meter because you only get a few flaps before the seagull falls in the sand.

That’s it! Just try to get as far as you can, and then try to beat that record! I guess that is what makes this kind of game so freaking addictive. The player is always trying to one-up his or herself. If the player gets 600 feet (or I guess it would be meters!) one time, they think “All I got to do is get 601!”

Oh well. I hope you like this game as much as I do. Check this great flash game out and try to beat my last high score of 757.76. If you beat it, be sure to come back here and leave a comment.

Here is another one of those games that is totally addictive, but you just don’t know why!

I mean there are no graphics! No background, no wicked cool sounds, nothing – just a stick figure dodging a bunch of spikes. Or maybe the ‘rag doll’ is in a cave, a very dark cave and he has to dodge all these falling stalactites. Yeah, that’s it, now the graphics just moved up a notch!

Anywho, all you have to do is see how long you can last without getting… well killed. As you can see in the screen above, getting hit by one of these spikes / stalactites is no fun!

So again, it sounds weird, because of how basic the game sounds. However you will find your self trying to outlast your last time over and over until before you know it an hour has passed.

So go ahead, and try it out.  Then come back here and let me know how you did!

Facebook Game - FarmVille

In FarmVille you plow your farm, plant and harvest all kinds of crops to earn money to further expand and improve your farmstead. You can also harvest trees and collect from animals.

It starts off a bit slow, but as you get more money to plant more crops, it gets really cool, really fast! Soon, you pretty much always have something to do!

Be sure to check back often though! You have to harvest your crops before they wither away. Just look at the screen here (all the brown plants), I slacked off for a few days and my farm was in ruins. BUT a quick plowing of the land, sewing of some seeds and I’m back in business.
It is a FaceBook game, so you can pull in all your friends and give each other cool gifts, like bunnies, goats, horses and more. If you are on FaceBook, and lets Face it, almost everyone is, then be sure to check this one out!

1812 Overture - Online Flash Game

Here is a fun game that features Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture, complete with cannon fire! This game is strangely addictive. Probably to due to it’s similarity in game play to other great games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero!

I’ve always loved this song. I can always picture the cannon fire at it climactic end, which in my mind ends like a wicked cool movie! The overture was actually written about a war, but not the War of 1812 like many people think. I was actually written to commemorate Russia’s defense of Moscow against Napoleon’s army.

Well, enough of the history lesson. This is a pretty fun game. Basically you get to play the part of the cannon. Just try to be as precise as you can, or… well, give it a try and see if you can get a perfect score!
